What is the best exercise to beat dementia, diabetes, and disease?
A talk by William Y. Shang, MD
Thursday, February 7 at 7 pm
Dr. Shang is certified by the American College of Sports Medicine, with additional board certification in pathology. He is the author of The FIRST Program: Fighting Insulin Resistance with Strength Training.
Dr. Shang explains how applying resistance exercise as part of a structured exercise routine can treat
elevated glucose, high blood pressure, and chronic systemic inflammation, as well as prevent/delay the onset of osteoporosis, diabetes, cancer, heart
disease, and cognitive decline.
Dr. Shang will discuss the “how” and “why” of exercise and share some specific training tips to combat sarcopenia, the
muscle loss associated with aging. Sarcopenia is strongly correlated with osteoporosis,
diabetes, cancer, heart disease, and dementia.
In recent years, studies have uncovered the unsung metabolic role of muscle in all of these diseases.
