Southworth Library in Dryden is hiring!
We are looking for a permanent part time Library Assistant for youth programming including preschool and toddler programs, youth and teen book clubs and programs and some Saturday Family Programs. The position also includes some general library work such as circulation and material management tasks.
The position starts February 2025. Some Saturday hours are included. Application forms are available below or at the library.
General description:
Looking for a dynamic, energetic person to assist with library youth programming. The youth programming assistant will be responsible for preschool storytime, children’s book clubs throughout the year, some Saturday programs and assistance with teen programs.
Hours will include Friday mornings for preschool storytime, some afterschool hours for book clubs (3:30 – 5), some Saturdays and evenings (10-12 hours a week). Some substitute hours for other staff members may be required as well.
Responsibilities
In addition to understanding the duties of all of the library staff, the Library Aide will have distinct responsibilities as listed below.
Circulation
- Be knowledgeable of all aspects of the automated library system and be able to operate the circulation desk.
Programs
- Able to plan and execute programs for preschool storytime
- Participate in and/or run programs for teens and children
- Preparation and cleanup as needed
- Help create promotional materials as needed
General
- General operations for materials use and computer operations for library catalog and public computers
- Maintain confidentiality in dealing with patron records
- Support, promote and implement library policies and procedures
- Deal tactfully and courteously with the public and other staff in a friendly manner
- Assist with management of library materials including shelving and retrieving materials
Qualifications
The Library Youth Programming Assistant should have experience with children and be familiar with children’s literature. Some knowledge of libraries, adequate oral and written communication skills, and the physical strength as required by the job are essential. The candidate must be able to lift 50 pounds and have free mobility. This person must be able to perform assigned duties accurately and in a timely fashion, accept direction, work independently, and maintain a professional and service-oriented attitude. A high school diploma or higher, with experience in youth programming is required.
Pay rate: $17/hour
Position to start in February 2025.
