Summer Reading 2025

Celebrate shared learning this summer with activities, reading and more at the library!  “Color Our World” is the theme this year and we have challenges and programs for all ages! The Summer Reading Challenges start on Saturday, June 21 with a Kick Off Party with Bluey at 10:30am and splatter art with SPLAT! Sumpthin’ from 11-noon! Programming begins July 7.

Saturday Summer Events

Come to the Southworth Library on Saturdays at 10:30 with your whole family to enjoy a variety of performances from local favorites and guests!

Free kids lunches

Lunches will be available for all school-aged kids Monday through Saturday from July 14 – August 16. Pick up your lunch at the front desk between 11:30am and 1pm (and at Montgomery Park on Wednesdays and Fridays).

Kids’ Farmer’s Market

Free produce will be available at the Kids’ Farmer’s Market on Wednesdays at Montgomery Park from July 16-August 13 at noon.

Kids Clubs and Programs

Monday: Mini-Masterpieces with Ms. Corbett – 12:30-2pm from July 7 to August 11 – Learn Learn about famous artists and do some amazing art projects! For grades K-6. Registration is required. Attendance at all sessions is not necessary. Come for free lunch and stay for fun!

Tuesday: Early Chapter Book Club with Ms. Jess – 12:30-2pm on July 8 to August 12 – Read a new book each week and then discuss with the group! Registration is required. For kids in grades 1-3.

Wednesday Wildlife at Montgomery Park – 12:30-1:30pm from July 9 to August 13. Meet our different animal visitors each week, hear some stories, and practice reading! This program is for all ages. No registration necessary. Free lunch available plus the Kids’ Farmers’ Market.

Wednesday: Cartooning Workshop with Ryan Abb – 4-5pm on July 16 to August 13 – Join graphic artist Ryan Abb for a weekly hands-on workshop! Registration is required. For teens in grades 6-12.

Thursday: Graphic Novel Book Club with Ms. Laura – 12:30-2pm from July 17 to August 14. For grades 2-6. Registration is required.

Friday Stories at Montgomery Park – 10am from July 5 to August 30 – Preschool storytime moves to Montgomery Park for July and August. Join us at the pavilion next to the playground for stories, songs and crafts and stay for a free lunch! Free books are provided, while supplies last, thanks to generous funding from the Rosen Family Library Fund. Open to all ages!

Friday: Teen Reader’s Cafe/Art Club– 3:30-4pm on alternating weeks from July 11 through August 15 – We’ll be reading and discussing 3 novels on 7/11, 7/25, and 8/8 and painting, collaging, and felting on 7/18, 8/1, and 8/15. For grades 6-12. Separate registration is required for the Reader’s Cafe and the Art Club.

Summer Reading Challenges

For children in grades preK-5: Pick up your Summer Reading Challenge and color in a paint spot on the palette for every 15 minutes of reading or bonus activity. When your first 5 spots are filled, come in for a reading buddy. Collect a Croc charm, book, or prize for every 5 spots you color in after that. Complete the whole palette to enter the drawing for gift certificates, art sets, and more.

For teens in grades 6-12: Pick up your Summer Reading Challenge and color in a paint spot on the palette for every 30 minutes of reading or bonus activity. For adults (and ambitious teens): Participate at your own pace. Pick up a Summer Reading Challenge sheet and read around the rainbow – each color is a different genre, including mystery, short stories, and historical fiction. Collect a chocolate every time you complete a color and get a coupon for a free drink at the Corner Brew when your rainbow is complete!
